James (Jim) Ian McCarty, age 71, passed away on February 13th, 2015 in Silver City, New Mexico. Jim lived in Penrose, Colorado since 1987 and is survived by his wife Cecelia; 5 daughters; Chris (Barry), Jane, Cheryl (Matt), Kim (Sam), Linda (Sheldon), 2 brothers; Willy and Pat, 10 grandchildren and an extended loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Doris McCarty. Jim was born on July 6th, 1943 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He attended Saint Leander’s in Pueblo, Colorado and graduated from Custer County High School in Westcliffe. Jim received an Associate’s degree from Southern Colorado State University. Jim accepted a position as an Automotive Instructor at Pikes Peak Community College in 1970 where he taught for almost 32 years. Jim was committed to education, serving on the Colorado Education Association Board. He served his community on the Penrose Volunteer Fire Department for about 10 years. Jim enjoyed hunting, especially with his long-time friend, Gale Bergman.
