James I. Whitmore, age 89 of Ashland, OH., passed away Friday, December 9, 2011 at Brethren Care in Ashland. On January 13, 1922 in Ashland, OH., Mr. Whitmore was born to Irvin Anderson and Grace Mae (Kyle-Koch) Whitmore. He had been a resident of Ashland all of his life. Mr. Whitmore was a graduate of Ashland High School and a veteran of the US Army serving during WW II, and a member of Grace Brethren Church. He formerly had been employed as a printer for nineteen years at A.L. Garber Co.
On July 20, 1941 Mr. Whitmore married Carol Friend who survives. Also surviving are four daughters: Janet and Ronald Stuart of Ashland,OH., Gloria Holloway of Ashland, OH., Donna and Larry Lightner of Dallas, Georgia, and Naomi and Robert Somerlade of Dallas, Georgia; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Mr. Whitmore was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Norma Sue Whitmore, brothers: John, Harvey, and Howard Whitmore; sisters: Florence Kister and Helen Weiler; and a step-father, Robert (Bert) Sloan.
