James G. Heckman, 80, of Southington, passed away on Friday September 14, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Ventura) Heckman.

James was born March 29, 1938 in Scranton, PA, a son of the late Russell and Mary (McGarity) Heckman and has been a Connecticut resident for over 45 years. He was a graduate of Moosic High School in Pennsylvania, where he was a star athlete and held several records which still stand today. James proudly and honorably served his country in the US Army as a paratrooper. He was employed as a Machinist at New Britain Machine and Stanley Sheppard Company, where he worked for 22 years. James was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, camping and fishing, especially with his grandsons. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved the Philadelphia Eagles. James was so happy when his beloved Eagles won the Super Bowl this past February, but he mostly enjoyed being at any event in which his grandchildren were participating.

James leaves his son, James D. Heckman of Unionville, and Katherine Wendt,  his daughter, Emily Kavanaugh and her husband John of Bristol, his stepson, Glen Stohmal and his wife Patsy of Southington, his stepdaughters, Lisa Carroll and her husband Ray of Kissimmee, FL and Janet Medler and her family, his sister Margaret Rudi of Pennsylvania, his grandchildren, Jack and Olivia Heckman, Leo and Jayden Kavanaugh and Deven and Alexis Stohmal, his former daughter-in-law, Betsy Sargent and many much loved extended family and friends. James was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Russell, Thomas, Irene and Emma.
