James F. Vandeventer, 82 of Centralia, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018, at SSM Health St. Marys Hospital in Centralia. He was born March 30, 1935 in Centralia, son of Herschel E. Vandeventer and Ella Mae (Nimmo) Vandeventer.
He married Judith Henning in 1963 and they later divorced.
He is survived by his daughter: Gayla Christ and husband Bill of St. Charles and his son: James C. “Curt” Vandeventer and wife Carla of Centralia; his three grandchildren: Brandi Vandeventer of Springfield, Elizabeth Ala and husband Sreeram Ala of Lake St. Louis, and Joshua Vandeventer of Centralia; a great-grandson: Arjun Ala of Lake St. Louis. Also surviving, his girlfriend of over 8 years and longtime friend for over 70 years: Mary L. Gore, Sandoval, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. James worked for the Illinois Central Railroad as a Carman for 43 years and 7 months. He was a graduate of the Centralia Township High School. He was a member of the Centralia Masonic Lodge 201 and Odin Masonic Lodge 503.
