Son, Father, Beloved Artist
James Francisco Barnes was born in Brooklyn, New York, June 11th, 1981 to Milagros Marrero and the late Melvin Barnes.
James lived and was schooled in Brooklyn during his youth. Years later, he moved to Harlem in his teens, where he flourished into a great young man who found a love for music. James loved hip-hop so much he would sit with his dad in the house (who had an amazing sound system for the 90’s lol) and would blast hip-hop all day.
James attended Wadleigh Secondary School for the Performing & Visual Arts. There he studied his artistry and came up with the artist name, Critical Focuz, due to his amazing word play and his focus on the craft of it all. Music was not his only talent; James had an array of talents that he showcased throughout his life. He was supportive and loving to everyone he met. James met the love of his life Wendy Alvarez. They fell in love and got married and they later had a child together, who completed his world. He was the best dad and wanted the best for his son. They always did things together and James enjoyed every second with his JB.
James departed at the early age of 40 years old on October 9th, 2021. He leaves behind a host of family and loved ones; Milagros Marrero (Mommy), Catalina Marrero (Titi), James Liam “JB” Barnes Jr. (son), Haylee “Princess” Mateo, Justin “Big Lil Me” Roque, cousins; Aliyah, Catherine, Marquise, Crystal, Andrina, Justin, Wayne, Takeisha, Pamela; Denise (aunt), Monique (aunt), Marilyn (aunt), and Mickey (uncle).
