James Flournoy Rigney, Sr., 78, of 700 Ridgecrest Drive, Danville, VA died Sunday, June 26, 2011 in Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born April 7, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late David Flournoy “Flynn†Rigney and the late Mary Louise Farthing Rigney. He was married to Lottie Musser Rigney who preceded him in death January 28, 2011. James was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, and a member of the Mt. Hermon Volunteer Fire Dept. He graduated from Whitmell Farm Life School and attended Danville Technical Institute. He worked at Dan River Mills and also was a farmer. His farm life extended far beyond his family as he instilled strong work ethics in many young people that helped him over the years.
