James Ernest Wheeler, 86, of Wisconsin Rapids, formerly of Ann Arbor, MI and Kailua, HI, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was a Professor Emeritus of the University of Michigan, Ross School of Business. He was honored for his teaching excellence and tax expertise, including the Sommerfeld Award and Beta Alpha Psi, Accountant Educator of the Year, Bowling Green State University. He was an expert witness for the IRS and corporations, specializing in international tax cases.
He was a funny, quick witted man, not afraid to speak his mind.  Jim enjoyed fishing, snorkeling, jogging, and bee keeping. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and took great pride in them.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Robin; his children: Ellen (Daniel) Wheeler Frye of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Rebecca (Ozzie) Wheeler Thoreson of Boulder, Colorado, and Stephen (Jennifer) Wheeler of Ypsilanti, Michigan; his grandchildren: Alissa, Zachery, and Kaylee Frye; Zeke, Ezra and Stella Thoreson; and Jasmine Wheeler; he is further survived by his sister, Eileen Ward of Sarasota, Florida.
A special thank you to the people at Ministry Hospice for their loving care, especially Bee Wilson, Jessica Capogreca, Jackie Brown, and Dave Baker. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Dawn Haasl and Brenda Linzmeier for their support and ongoing care.  A special thank you to the Frye family, whose daily love and assistance allowed Jim to remain at home.
