Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away late Wednesday evening May 11, 2016 at the Carriage House of Bay City with his family by his side. Age 79 years. Jim was born October 24, 1936 in Bay City and had resided here for many years. Jim retired from Bay City Chevrolet in 1988 after thirty years of service, enjoyed the time he spent camping in Bentley and the fifteen years that he resided in Florida. He had a great joy for riding his bike and was known as the “Toothpick Man” to many, most of all he cherished the time that he spent with his family. On May 2, 1975 he married the former Barbara (Sigafose) Nephew and she is left to cherish his memories along with one daughter and son-in-law; Debra and Hugh Cameron, two sons and one daughter-in-law; James Gavord Jr. and Todd and Tracy Gavord all of Bay City, two step sons and step daughters-in-law; John and Terri Nephew Jr. and Michael and Joyce Nephew, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, two brothers; Richard and Catherine Gavord Sr. and Ronald “Luke” and Darlene Gavord, five sisters; Virginia and Harold Reed, Marlene and Leo Tomczak Sr., Shirley Beyett, Mary Fisher and Sharon and Gary Harrison, several nieces and nephews.Mr. Gavord was preceded in death by his father; August Gavord, his mother and step father; Victoria (Piotrowski) and Harry Graber and two brothers-in-law; Clyde Fisher and Robert Beyett Sr.
