James Poole was born February 18, 1937 to Willa Griston in Columbus, Ohio. His love for life and commitment to make this world a better place has been demonstrated by the roles he played: veteran, journalist, advocate for the disadvantaged, political activist, entrepreneur, educator, coach, and music lover. He was a role model and mentor for many, and adopted many sons and daughters.
James Poole was an educated man and an advocate of lifelong learning. He attained a Bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and a Master’s in Education from the University of Hartford. He was responsible for many young people being admitted to colleges and private high schools in the United States and internationally. He did not stop with their admittance into school; he guided them through the education process to graduation and beyond.
James Poole encouraged everyone that he encountered to strive for perfection. His expectation was for each one to be the best that they can be and to never quit. Failure was not an option. He encouraged individuals to explore the world and make a commitment to work to make this world a better place.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; sons, Reggie (Doreen), Tim, Lyndon, Morse, and Onesphore; a daughter, Linda (Jerry); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
He became a surrogate father to many others. He always said that he was not perfect, but he was doing his best to be a good man. He will be greatly missed.
