James E. Cochrane

Feb 3, 1920 – May 20, 2014

Our dad, Jim Cochrane, passed away on the Twentieth of May 2014 at the age of 94 in Fort Walton Beach.  He enlisted into the Army Air Corps on December 26, 1940.  We often heard stories of World War 2, “The Big One”.

Jim went ashore on Utah Beach in Normandy on D-Day plus 8 serving in the 50th Fighter Group, Tenth Fighter Squadron aircraft maintenance crews.  His duty carried him throughout Europe until the end of the war.  After WW2, he served in the Korea War.  He completed a US Air Force career as a Senior Master Sergeant retiring on Oct 1, 1968 after 28 years 9 months.  After his retirement, he was employed by the City of Fort Walton Beach to manage the Sanitation Department.  He retired once again from the City in 1982 after 13 years.

He was a man of dry wit who could make people laugh while with a straight face.  The love of his life was Bernice Caspersen Cochrane, who was his sweetheart for 55 years of marriage until her passing in 2004.  He will be greatly missed by his three children Lawrence Cochrane, Michael Cochrane and Mary Ann Stokes, son and daughters in laws, his five grandchildren Moriah Norris, Rachel Duong, Mary Beth Martinez, Alison Cochrane and Michael J. Cochrane and 5 great grandchildren.
