James Earl Army Sr., 63, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, in his residence.

He was born July 8, 1950, in Slaughter, Miss., to L.C. Army Sr. and Dazzel (Jackson) Army.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene D. (Beatty) Army of Elkhart; two sons, James E. Army Jr. of Atlanta and Justin E. Army of Indianapolis; daughter Kimberley Army and fiancé Brian D. Nolan, both of Elkhart; two stepsons, Robert (Pauline) Richmond and Jermaine Butts, both of Elkhart; stepdaughter Tracy (Robert) Guffey of Elkhart; mother Dazzel Army of West Monroe, La.; four brothers, Ethelbert (Linda) Army of Elkhart, Charles L. Army of Ocala, Fla., Kenneth Army of West Monroe and Leonard Army of Houston; three sisters, Jean E. (Curtis) Buford of Elkhart, Valerie Army-Rogers of West Monroe and Carolyn D. Bell of Houston; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, L.C. Army Jr., and grandmother Idora Jackson.

James was a graduate of Elkhart Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. James was employed as a baker at Macri’s Bakery for several years. He enjoyed spending time fishing and playing card games with family and friends.
