James E. Martine died January 20, 2012 in Alameda at the age of 85.  Jim was raised in Oakland and attended Durant Elementary School.  When his family moved to Alameda in 1939 Jim attended Alameda High School and graduated in 1944.  After graduation Jim went to work as an apprentice-machinist for the Southern Pacific Railroad.  At Southern Pacific Railroad Jim held many positions; secretary treasurer for union local 1117, Roundhouse foreman and Training officer until his retirement in 1985.  Jim also was a Captain of the Civil Patrol.  Jim worked on Bart in its beginning to keep the switch engine operating.  As an Alameda resident, Jim’s interests included a founding member of the Alameda High Historical Foundation, 1978-2009.  After retiring Jim worked as stage manager at Alameda High Kofman auditorium until 2009.  

Jim is survived by his niece Annette Martine Crisman, great niece Leeann Martine Crisman, and sister-in-law Helena Martine.
