James ‘Dewon’ Wells, age 52, of Stone Creek Drive, Mt. Sterling, a longtime firefighter and paramedic, was born March 26, 1965, in Paintsville, and passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling.
Dewon is survived by his wife, Lori Ann Lawson Wells, whom he wed May 10, 2011; his mother, Sandra Osborne Helton of Lexington; his father, James Edwin Wells and stepmother Patty of Versailles; two sons, MSgt Jason McClanahan and Rebecca of Las Vegas, Nevada, and 2LT Jeremy McClanahan and Dana of Mt. Sterling; one daughter, Sarah McClanahan of Mt. Sterling; and three grandchildren, Alexander, Jillian and Ava.
Other survivors include one sister, Andre Prather of Lexington; three stepsisters, Lori Luckett of Versailles, Dr. Hannah Helton of Gilbert, Arizona, and Dr. Jennifer Helton of Mineral Springs, South Carolina; two stepbrothers, Dr. Mark Helton of Hickory, North Carolina, and Chad Brown of Versailles; maternal grandmother, Imogene Osborne of Paintsville; one uncle, Roger Osborne of Paintsville, mother-in-law, Betty Lawson of Mt. Sterling; two nieces, Brittany Bird and Brooklyn Payne; other dear relatives; and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Dr. John D. Helton, of Lexington.
Dewon graduated from Bryan Station High School in Lexington and attended U.K., Eastern, Western, and Mid-Continental universities, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree.
