James Crocker Green, age 92, of Vandalia, Michigan, died peacefully, Thursday, August 4, 2016, in the peace and comfort of those who loved and cared for him in Lakeland Health Center in Saint Joseph, Michigan. Crocker was born December 15, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Nathaniel and Frances (Crocker) Green, the second oldest of seven children. He married Marjorie Maxine Evans December 18, 1956 in Angola, Indiana. She preceded him in death in 1988.
He was also preceded by his parents; his second mother, Henrietta (Crocker) Green; twin sisters, Celia Ann Jackson and Mary Louise Green; and three brothers, Milton Green, Nathaniel Green, and William Green. Crocker attended Hampton College in Hampton, Virginia, majoring in agriculture. He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Medical Tech in Burma during World War II. Crocker was a police officer for the City of Chicago, Illinois, retiring after more than twenty four years of service.
Crocker will be greatly missed by family and friends. He leaves to mourn his passing his son, Michael A. Green of Centreville, Michigan; two grandchildren, Michael Green, Jr. and Sjanette Green; one sister, Ellen Williams of Greensboro, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews, including those who grew up on the farm with him: Alicia M. May of Mishawaka, Indiana, Bruce Green of Vandalia, Michigan, William Green of South Holland, Illinois, Angela Selinger of Pittsburgh, California, Bianca May of Vandalia, Michigan, Cynthia Ash of Cassopolis, Michigan, and Veronica Jackson of East Lansing, Michigan.
