James Craig Hougham, age 69, passed away on Friday, January 14th, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Craig was born to James B. and Norma Jean (Jones) Hougham of Adel, Iowa. He graduated from Dallas Center-Grimes High School in 1970 and from DMACC as an auto part specialist in 1972. Craig then worked for Baer Ag Supply for several years. In 1985 he opened a parts store in Dallas Center and owned and ran it until 1996. His personality and expertise were very much missed by everyone when he sold the store. He then became manager at CARQUEST in Des Moines.
Craig was a big car enthusiast, the classics and the street rods were his loves. He could fix anything and many people depended on him and his knowledge and skills. He had a beautiful white 1930 Model A that he built from parts and pieces. It may have said Ford, but it was powered by Chevy. Craig was also working on Linda’s 1968 Chevelle. He was determined to make it perfect for her.
His favorite pastimes were working on the cars with their little dog, Putz by his side. He also loved to go for long drives in the country and there was usually a stop for ice cream on the way for Putz. Spending time with Linda, Putz, his mom, Roy Lee, children and grandchildren were his pleasures in life.
Craig is survived by his close companion of three years, Linda Jennings Brink, two sons, Jared Hougham (Nicole) of Prairie City, Iowa and Michael Hougham (Tricia) of Adel, Iowa; four beautiful grandchildren, Baily Hougham, Cadence Hougham, Kinnley Hougham and Zoe Hougham; his loving mother, Norma Jean Jones Hougham and his loving step-father, Roy Lee Bandy of Earlham; his sister, Karen Hougham Allen (Merle) of Norwalk, Iowa, and Linda’s children, Kelly Morse (Kelly) of Ohio, Deanne Vespestad (Andy) of Madrid, Iowa, Kimberley Burgett (Brian) of Florida, Kylie Brink of Waukee, Iowa along with their children.
