James Thomas Closson, age 83, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, June 9, 2016, in the presence and comfort of his family in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. James was born May 19, 1933 in Vandalia, Michigan to Lyle and Flora (Darlison) Closson.

He married Sally Mae Ferguson, September 9, 1962 in Dowagiac, Michigan. She survives. Jim retired from Service Oil Company after driving a transport truck for thirty nine years. More than anything else, Jim loved being with his family, especially reading to his granddaughter. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, camping, and cutting wood. After retirement, Jim and Sally traveled even more than they had throughout the United States, often visiting their children.

He and his wife loved to dance. Jim was a member of the Dowagiac Moose Lodge #933. His family will miss his gentle smile. James will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Sally (Ferguson) Closson of Cassopolis; three daughters, Lynn (Dale) Stapleton of Roanoke, Indiana, Rena (David DeVore) Closson-DeVore of Culver City, California, Dena Closson of Portland, Oregon; one granddaughter, Kayla Stapleton of Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister, Sue Buck of Niles, Michigan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
