James Carl “Jim” Gwin, age 84, of Rensselaer passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at George Ade Health Center, Brook, Indiana. Jim was born April 5, 1928, in Rochester, Indiana, the son of Leon Gwin and Mildred (Jones) Gwin. He graduated from Rensselaer High School with the class of 1947. On June 24, 1951, in Rensselaer, Jim married Jerry Daugherty who survives.
He was a salesman for Northway Products, retiring after 30 years of employment. After retirement, Jim served as the Jasper County Building Inspector for over 23 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Rensselaer and was a Deacon Emeritus of the church. Jim enjoyed being active and believed in being involved in the community. He was a current Republican Precinct Committeeman, a former member of the Rensselaer City Council and past executive board member of the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission.
Jim was a member and past-president of the Rensselaer Lion’s Club, and a member of the Men’s Auxiliary of the VFW Post #1279 and the Sons of the Legion. He was a former member of the Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department. Jim was an avid golfer and held a private pilot’s license. Surviving are his loving family, wife, Jerry Gwin; children, James Carl (Donna) Gwin, Jr., Indianapolis, Jeffery Lynn (Carol) Gwin, Columbus, IN and Julie Kay (Gary) Evers, Rensselaer; six grandchildren, Matthew, Carrie, Brett, Scott, Jessica and Jordan, six great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald Gwin of Georgia.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Jacob.
