Our brother James Campbell Gabbard Jr, 60, departed our earthly presence on Monday, August 29, 2016, to answer our Lord Father’s heavenly call. James was born on February 8, 1956, in Norman, Oklahoma, a Native American of Wichita, Caddo and Delaware descent also of Oklahoma. He was proud to claim his Okie heritage. As his parents were employed with the federal government his family moved throughout the US but somehow always returned to Albuquerque.

He is survived by his wife, Marveline Vallo Gabbard; daughter, Brittany Vallo and newborn granddaughter, Vanessa Vallo; mother-in-law, Eva Vallo; brother-in-law, Toney Vallo; sisters-in-law, Tamra, Darla and Karla Vallo; in heart his mother, brother and sisters, many nieces and nephews, all of Acoma Pueblo descent; sister, Sheryl L. Gabbard Brewer from Anadarko, OK and her boyfriend, Benjamin Caswell, her son Edward R. Brewer IV, his wife Rhonda Billie, their sons Jaiden and Anfernee Brewer; sister, Laurie Gabbard Coats from Ganado, AZ, husband, Coy Coats, her daughter, Rachel Mireles Kuykendall, husband Jay and their daughters Mikayla and Addison.

James is preceded in death by his father, James Sr. and mother, Myrtle Irene; paternal grandparents, Ike and Flora Gabbard and their daughters, Margaret and Grace; and maternal grandparents, John and Jane Thomas and their son, Earl and daughters, Jacqueline and Alene.

James attended Haskell Indian Junior College. He started his career with Indian Health Service Headquarters in Rockville, MD, returned to Albuquerque to work with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in finance and ended his career in accounting with the American Indian Graduate Center, where he met his wife, Marveline. James had many interests including camping while appreciating the outdoors fishing, boating and hunting offered, competitive bowling and golfing, and of course the TV pastime of sports, most entertaining of which he found football (Go Sooners) baseball, tennis and golf.
