James C. Askew, Jr., 95, of Asbury Park, NJ passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014.  He was born on November 29, 1918 in Montgomery, Al to the late James E. Askew, Sr. and Bessie Askew.

James moved to the Southside of Pittsburg at the age of seven.  His family migrated to North Versailles, PA where James attended the North Versailles School District.

In his late teens he served with the Civil Conservation Corporation (CCC) for two years. In the early fifties he relocated to Englewood, NJ, and worked as a self-employed long distance truck driver until his retirement.

James accepted Christ into his life at an early age and became active in Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Versailles. After relocating to New Jersey and retiring, he became a member of Six Street Baptist Church in Lakewood, NJ.  He served in a number of positions in the church for forty years. He was ordained a Deacon in 1982-1983.

James, the family Patriarch, was a kind, loving, sharing, and caring individual.  He was always completely supportive of family members, as well as friends.  He was wedded in holy matrimony to Christine Dickerson in May 1994.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Deaconess Christine Dickerson Askew; one son, Leon (Donna) Askew of Wilkinsburg, PA; one daughter, Jamie Ruth Calloway of Wilkinsburg, PA; one step daughter;  Debbie, one godson Thomas (Lola) Wade of Louisburg, NC; one brother; Lewis J. Askew Sr. (Shirley) of Monroeville, PA; two sisters, Rose Rouse of North Versailles, PA,  and Stephanie Brown of Norfolk, VA; twenty one grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
