James Byam Orr, Sr. left his earthly bonds Tuesday, November 25 after a courageous battle with heart disease. Jim was born May 31, 1929 in Bristol where he remained a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late Frederick J. and Vera (Byam) Orr.
Jim was the retired Vice-President and General Manager of Bristol Spring Manufacturing Co. in Plainville. He served in the US Air Force for 4 years during the Korean Conflict.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years Ruth G. (O’Brien) Orr, son James B. Orr, Jr., daughter Nancy Jean Scalia and Nancy’s husband John Scalia. He also leaves behind grandchildren Jeffrey, Kimberly and Katy Scalia. Jim was predeceased by his brother Richard and sister Joyce. To all that knew him, Jim earned their greatest respect as a fair, kind, honest and decent man. The phrase that most people used to describe him was “Gentleman”. Jim exited life in the same manner he lived it; with dignity, courage and love. He will be greatly missed by all.
