James Beecher Day, Sr. was born June 4, 1944, in Sharon, Mississippi to the late Rev. Moses Day, Sr. and Henrietta Spivey.

James moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1959 and attended Harry E. Wood High School.

James was gainfully employed with an Industrial lead manufacturer until he became ill with lead poisoning and was inevitably placed on disability. Although James’ life was marred with sickness, he beat remarkable odds and he instilled a work ethic in his children that was parallel to none. While he couldn’t hold a full-time job, James found ways to make money and provide for his family. No matter what it was, if he wanted to do it, he never took “no” for an answer. James was a remarkable man. He was a kind man, a gentle man, he was the man that was loved by so many people. That type of person, you just can’t put it all into words.

James defied the doctors’ odds by living to the age of 77 years old when he was told he would not live past 50 years old.

James was called into the Kingdom on December 6, 2021, at the age of 77.

James was preceded in death by his son, James Day, Jr.; granddaughter, Michelle; both parents, as well as John Henry Day, Moses Day, Jr.

James leaves to cherish his memories, a wife; his children, Martisha Jones (Jerry), Shondell Day, Demetria Day, LaKneisha Collins and daughter in law, Rosie Day. Siblings, Fannie Austin (George B.), Roosevelt, Henrietta, C.L. and Arthur (Charlotte), 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
