James E. Askew, Sr. “Jim”, 87, resident of Cook Springs Alabama died Jan 23, 2011. Mr. Askew was known as “Squee” to his friends and “Big Jim” to family. He was preceded in death by his first wife Inez “Sis” Askew. He is survived by his wife, Becky Askew, Cook Springs, Alabama, one sister Bobbie Grier, Birmingham, Al., four sons Jim (Varina), Prattville, Al, Jeff (Dana), Pinson, Al, Mo (Kathy), Birmingham, Al, five grandchildren, one great grandchild. His extended family includes: two daughters, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy serving as a gunner aboard the battleship USS Pennsylvania. He retired from the City of Birmingham as a building inspector. Mr. Askew was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion Post 171.
