James A. Hershberger, age 76, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Saturday evening, August 11, 2018 in his residence in the comfort of his family’s presence. He was born August 26, 1941 in Howe, Indiana, the third oldest of six children of John and Velma Hershberger. He married Betty Jane Sheteron September 5, 1959 in Cassopolis, Michigan.
She survives. James was an Engineer in the Railroad industry, working for Penn Central, Conrail and Norfolk Southern.James was very sociable – he liked to talk. Nobody was a stranger. He couldn’t stay angry.James will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of almost fifty-nine years, Betty Hershberger of Cassopolis; five children, Sherry Hunt of Edwardsburg, James (Teresa) Hershberger of Vandalia, Becky (Kevin) Wright of Cassopolis, twins Keith Hershberger and Kevin (Jill) Hershberger, both of Cassopolis; ten grandchildren, Sherrylinn (Robert) Bloss, Cody Pappas, Stephanie (Terry) Knepple, Dan (Wren) Hershberger, James W. (Allison Elrod) Hershberger, Ruth Ann (Michael) Bruneau, Kayla Hershberger, Kyle Hershberger, Andrew (Calie) Hershberger, Arminda (Darrin) Dussel; eight great grandchildren, Camren Pappas, Brody Knepple, William Hershberger, Wyatt Hershberger, Kevin Bruneau, Kaden Bruneau, Dean Dussel, Everly Dussel; two sisters, Dorothy (Warren) Johnson of Bristol, Indiana, Vickie (Jim) Perkins of Elkhart; one brother, Paul (Mary Jo) Hershberger of Tennessee; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Velma Hershberger; two sisters Barbara Gorehouse and Nancy Paulson.
