Jake Thomas Scanlan, 20, of North Potomac, MD, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 11, 2015 in his dorm room in Siegfried Hall at the University of Notre Dame. He was born on December 18, 1994 in Rockville, MD to Jerry and Janet Scanlan.

He graduated from Mater Dei School in 2009 and Gonzaga College High School in 2013, where he played Varsity soccer. He was a junior at Notre Dame studying mechanical engineering.

Jake is survived by his parents, Jerry and Janet; his three sisters, Leah (Scanlan) Hopke, Bethany and Jenna; his brothers-in-law, Matt Hopke and Andrew Jelinek. He also leaves behind two grandparents, Dorothy Scanlan and Charles Grawey, and Charles’ wife, Virginia, many aunts, uncles, cousins, countless friends, and his girlfriend, Caroline.

Jake was a loving son, devoted brother, and faithful friend. He used his God given talents to make others happy, living his life so authentically that he could not help but inspire others to do the very same. We will miss Jake’s humble demeanor, his big smile, and his witty sense of humor.
