Jacob  Curtis Redwine 98, of Ringgold died Wednesday September 21. 2016 in a healthcare facility near Birmingham,  Alabama. He was born in Redwine’s Cove in Whitfield County, Georgia on December 3, 1917. Jake grew up in Dalton and was proud that he walked more than one mile to school every day.

Along with several of his buddies, he enlisted in the Army at the beginning of WWII but was given a medical discharge.  He was proud that he helped construct Oak Ridge National Laboratory and received a certificate of appreciation for his participation in the Manhatten Project.

He married Tomilee Lockhart in 1948 and they were marred for 41 years until she preceded him in death in 1989. He talked about her and her red hair up until the day of his passing.

Jake was very mechanically talented and was a machinist by trade.  He worked for Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga for more than 36 years, most of that time as the Toolroom Foreman.

Jake is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pat Redwine of Birmingham, AL and two grandsons, Mark and Daniel Redwine.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews, all of which he was very proud.
