POLAND – Jacqueline “Jackie” Ann Hannay (Pence/Paxson), 68, formerly of Salem passed away, Monday, June 6, 2022, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jackie was born on April 19, 1954 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late John Pence and Dorothy (First) Hartman.
Jackie was a 1972 graduate of Salem High School where she loved to perform and travel with SIng Out Salem. After high school, she went on to Kent State University graduating with a degree in Elementary Education (K-8). She continued her education earning a Master’s degree from Kent State University in Reading K-12. Jackie worked at West Branch Local Schools where she taught 4th grade at Goshen Center and Beloit Elementary before retiring from Damascus Elementary after 27 years. Her love of teaching led her back to Kent State (Salem Branch) where she was an adjunct professor and student teaching supervisor. She was loved by her coworkers and her legacy will live on through the positive impact that she had on her students.
Jackie has always been involved in the community. She served as the past president of the Salem Jr. Mother’s Club, and most recently served as secretary of her 50th High School Reunion Committee. You could always find Jackie volunteering and lending a helping hand in Salem athletics during the time her children participated.
Jackie was known to be the life of the party. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Her favorite activities included traveling with her family, attending her grandchildren’s activities and spending time at the Salem Country Club.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Hannay, whom she married July 26, 2009; three daughters, Christi (Mathew) Arnoto of Salem, Kelly Paxson of Salem, and Elizabeth (Joe) Habarka of Hubbard; two sons, Rich (Michelle) Paxson of East Palestine, Patrick Hannay of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Gavin, Carson, Aiden, Brendan, Owen and Lucas; Richard Paxson, her ex-husband with whom she remained close; five sisters, Ann Greenisen, Carol (Dan) Burton, Peggy Mays, Joan Hartman, and Budgie Latshaw; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and her dog Brandy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving stepdad, Robert Hartman; brother-in-law, Todd Latschaw; nephew, Doug Moffett, and her beloved chocolate lab, Cappie.
Friends and family will be received Monday, June 13, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Stark Memorial, Salem.
