Jackie Wayne “Jack” Trees, 81, died peacefully surrounded by family and a longtime friend on Friday, July 9, 2021, in Marion General Hospital.
Jack was born at home near Van Buren on January 19, 1940, the son of the late Kenneth and Helen (Sloderbeck) Trees. Jack graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Careins, on June 12, 1959 and to this day, she is still the love of his life. Jack loved life and people and especially being a grandpa. He loved to watch IU and Purdue basketball, Colts football and for many years camped at Wildwood Acres campground. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He had several passions over the years, which included his love for animals, especially dogs. He farmed and milked cows for over 46 years and was the happiest working alongside his wife.
He was the owner and operator of Happy Tails Pet Lodge boarding kennel and for a few years he had a mowing business. He drove a school bus for Eastbrook Community Schools, worked for the Grant County Highway Department, Walnut Creek Golf Course and the Warren Methodist Home (Heritage Pointe). He especially loved to watch his granddaughters over the years cheering them on at their basketball, soccer, and softball games no matter what the weather was. He called his granddaughters every day and they will always remember him saying “This is Grandpa. Whatcha up to today?” They learned many things from this man they were so blessed to call Grandpa and he will be greatly missed.
He enjoyed the special time spent with his son just talking and splitting wood and helping on the farm. His daughter has been very helpful throughout his life and loved him dearly. Jack had a David Bradley collection and loved going to Country music shows. He loved to drive his golf cart around the neighborhood and had wonderful neighbors, Ann and Emerson Jones, Dan and Cheryl Spencer, Steve and Rita Puckett, Pete and Lou Williams, and Bob and Gloria Daugherty, just to name a few. He was a member of Oak Chapel United Methodist Church and loved the “porch ministry” of Jefferson Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Linda, Upland; two children: Kevin (Brenda) Trees, Marion and Pamela Trees, Marion; two granddaughters: Lauren and Valerie Trees, Marion; a sister: Phyllis Anne Worrick, Grove City, Ohio; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Jack had eight granddogs, all of whom he loved, including Peanut, Miley, and Harley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Wayne Worrick.
