Jackie passed away on June 1, 2017, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit after a short battle with cancer. She was born on April 4, 1949. Prior to retiring from the City of Kalamazoo public works department in 2012, she owned and operated the Ports of Call party store in Mattawan. Jackie touched the lives of countless people.
She was referred to as “Mom” by many and “friend” by many more. She had a way of showing her love through her nurturing qualities and zest for life, not to mention her sassy ways. She very much enjoyed camping, mushroom hunting, racing, and many other recreational activities with her family and friends. She was never able to drive by a casino without stopping and never missed a soccer game or a BMX race. She truly enjoyed life, people, and especially her grandsons. Jackie will be incredibly missed and would have loved to have said goodbye to everyone in person. Please honor Jackie’s memory by performing a random act of kindness, hugging someone as you mean it, sharing a laugh with a friend or having a cocktail. Remember, it’s the little things in life that mean the most.
She was the daughter of Clifford and Beatrice Jones. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jeannine Schwab. Surviving are her two children, Sara Frimand and her fiancé, Mike Lansdale of Paw Paw and Steve and Jennifer Hippensteel of Mattawan; two grandsons, Jacob and Thomas Hippensteel; Mike’s son Seth Lansdale; a sister Linda Creeden; a brother, Bob and Carol Jones; and nieces and nephews.
