Jack R. Espy, the son of Russell D. and Leona F. (Sweetman) Espy, was born May 11, 1932 in Centerville, Iowa. He attended Moravia, Iowa schools.
On October 9, 1949, Jack was united in marriage two Norma C. Huff in Cincinnati, Iowa. Together, they moved to Newton, Iowa and Jack went to work for the Maytag Company. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict. After returning home Jack went back to work at Maytag in the maintenance department, retiring in 1992, during that time he served as a UAW Chief Plant Representative for Plant 2. He always wanted something to do, in 1971-1986 he was a Jasper County Sheriff Reserve, then in 1986-1988 he was a Jasper County Deputy Sheriff, and he served on the Jasper County Democratic Central Committee. Jack was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Michael Jorgenson and his brother, Bill Espy. Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Norma of Newton; his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Teresa Espy of Mt.
