BOGEMA, Jack R., Sr. “Bogie” of Oshtemo, Michigan. Passed away November 12, 2010 at his home. He was born December 18, 1926 in Comstock, MI to the late Dick and Sadie Vander Swag Bogema. Jack was married to Alice “Dolly” Van Ooy on January 25, 1946, who survives. At a young age, he was active in raising celery, later driving semi hauling celery to Cincinnati.

He coached baseball and softball for little league and he loved roller-skating. He spent several years as an active cub scout and boy scout leader. He served many years on the Oshtemo Volunteer Fire Department. He loved racing and enjoyed scoring and timing races for 17 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing and mushroom hunting. Not only was he a carpenter by trade for 42 years, he was also a building inspector at WMU for several years and even enjoyed wood-working and crafts in his spare time.

He enjoyed telling people about the many buildings he helped build, in Kalamazoo. Bogie was a member of Masonic Lodge #340. Also surviving Jack are his children, Jack Judy Bogema, Jr., of Kalamazoo, Barbara Neff of Grapevine, TX, Deborah Terry Brost of Lovell, WY and Dawn Jim Hill of Three Rivers; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, Robert Gweneth Bogema; and many nieces and nephews. Also preceding Jack in death were 2 sisters, Rena Gorsuch and Anna Huis.
