Jack L. Hollenbeck, age 82, of Midland, passed away January 19, 2019 at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant. He was born Jan. 8, 1937 in Midland to the late Isaac and Lillian Mae (Suttlift) Hollenbeck and lived his entire life in this community graduating from Midland High in 1956. Jack served in the Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict.

On August 3, 1958 he married Antoinette Anthony of Bay City, MI. Jack was a quiet man who lived by the concept that the highest form of appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. He taught us to appreciate everyone, be honest, and to show up to work. He retired from General Motor after 35 years in 1996 but always worked a second job for local funeral homes for 55 years having started with Wilson Funeral Home in 1964.

After he fully retired from GM, Jack went back to working Wilson MILLER Funeral Home until retiring in 2017 due to health reasons. Jack felt working at the funeral home was a calling he did not believe the focus was on death but rather serving the living, the survivors to help them deal with their grief. He believed that “Grief shared is grief diminished and joy shared is joy increases”. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Midland Odd Fellows Lodge 418 where held the position of Grand Noble, and American Legion Berryhill Post 615. He and Toni wintered in Las Vegas for many year where he also worked at the former Hites Funeral Home.
