Jack L. Allen, 75, of Meredosia, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born June 7, 1937, in Meredosia, the son of James Henry and Rena Mae Flynn Allen.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna Mae; two daughters, Deborah (Steven) Surratt of Meredosia and Jackie (Matt) Post of Arenzville; four grandchildren, Michelle (Stacey) Fanshier, Melissa (Brian) Floyd, Jessica (Brian) Bennett and Jacob Post; five great-grandchildren, Chloe Fanshier, Hayden Floyd, Sophie Fanshier, Lilie Floyd and Jade Bennett; one brother, George (Jean) Allen of Meredosia; and one sister, Marsha Hardwick of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Margaret Gleghorn, Wilma “Sis” Brim, Ruth Six, JoAnn Irvin and Donna Nance; and one brother, Estel “Boy” Allen.
Mr. Allen retired after 35 years from National Starch Chemical Company in Meredosia, where he was a member of the Boilermakers Union. He was the happiest when sharing a good meal with family and friends. He always had a sparkle in his eye when spoiling his grand kids with treats and gifts.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his brother, George, having coffee or working in their garden. He was an active member of Gospel Tabernacle Church in Meredosia.
