Jack G. “Pete” Peterson, 86, of Washington, D.C. and formerly of Elkhart and Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 1, at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, D.C.
Pete, as he was known to family and friends, was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Elkhart, to the late Gilbert E. Peterson and Catherine A. (Aurenz) Peterson-Russo.
Pete is survived by his children, two sons, Joseph M. (Chris) Peterson of Elkhart and David E. (Lynn) Peterson of Goshen; daughter Marianne (Jim) Milner of South Bend; grandson Nick Peterson of Goshen; stepsister Jo Shaver of Elkhart; and his half brother Bill (Debbie) Russo.
In addition to his parents, a stepsister, Suzanne Selvy, preceded him in death.
Pete graduated from Elkhart High School in 1949. He then began a 20-year career in the United States military, serving from 1950 until his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1970. He also had worked as a clerk at the Elkhart Post Office for six years. He then moved to Corpus Christi and worked for the Army Civil Works at the Army Depot for five years. Pete was a devoted Catholic.
He was a third degree member of St. Paul Council 8170 Knights of Columbus and also the Knights of Columbus Corpus Christi 4th Degree Assembly 1097 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was also a corporate member of SOLT (Society of our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity.)
