Jack Evan Smith, 77, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday August 21, 2013 at St. Vincent Heart Center of Indianapolis, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 18, 1936 in Terre Haute to Hollis and Sue Hinote Smith. Jack graduated in 1954 from Ashboro High School. He was the founder of Evan and Ryan Electrical Contractors. He was a 57 year member of the IBEW Local 725 and the National Electrical Contractors Association since 1999 as well as the retiree’s association. He was the chairman of the JATC for 30 years. He has been a long time member of the William Pen Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Shriners, the York Rite, Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion and the past president of the German Oberlander Club. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was in the 181st Tactical Fighter Unit of the Air National Guard. Jack was a truly caring and genuine man. He deeply loved and cared for his family, friends and workers. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and picking them up after school. He enjoyed going to ISU basketball games and making pancakes for breakfast on Sundays for his family for many years. Jack will be remembered for his smile and sense of humor. Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolee Harden Smith, they were high school sweethearts. He is survived by his children, a son and his wife, Sam and Diane Smith of Terre Haute, a daughter and her husband, Loretta and Kurt Showalter of Louisville, KY., and a son and his wife, Dan and Judi Smith of Terre Haute. He is survived by grandchildren; Ron Smith and his wife Beth, Amanda Ellis and her husband Ramsey, Britney Showalter, Chad Showalter, Jacob Smith and his wife Emalie, Michael Smith and Jessica Smith. Great Grandchildren; Lauryn Smith, Taylor Smith, Shane Smith, Ava Ellis, Evan Ellis and Haiden Smith. He is also survived by sisters; Susie Hayes and her husband Mike, Debbi Stout and her husband Jim and a brother, Jeff Smith and his wife Burdona. Sister in-law, Donna Schopmeyer and brother in-law, Richard Harden. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Sue Hinote Smith and his wife’s parents, Clarence and Marguerite Harden.
