Jack and Virginia Anne (Sodermark) Johnson, of 2711 South Hill Road, Gladstone, passed away Friday afternoon March 3, 2017 from injuries they received from an automobile accident in Gladstone.

Jack was born December 28, 1927 in Escanaba, MI the son of Victor and Anna (Anderson) Johnson. Virginia was born March 21, 1932 in Gwinn, MI the daughter of Arthur and Lucille (Rubare) Sodermark. Jack and Virginia were united in marriage on February 4, 1950. They resided in Gladstone for 27 years where they raised their children. They later moved to Soo Hill when they built their new home, eventually returning to Gladstone.

Jack worked for 32 years with Stang Tank Lines and 8 years with Scott Dairy. He was a member of Local Union #328. Jack loved fishing, hunting and traveling the Upper Peninsula.

Virginia worked for many years for Dr. BH Skellenger and Dr. John Skellenger. She was a member of WELCA. Her hobbies included going to camp and quilting.

Jack and Virginia were active members of the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. They both were avid morel and blueberry pickers. Their children and grandchildren could always count on them when they needed help or when there was a need.

5 grandchildren:
Bridget (Scott) Larson, Ginny (Jeremy) Menard, Katie (Matt) Smith, Nick Johnson and Dani (Matt) Berg

11 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Siblings include Jack’s sister-in-law, Lois Johnson, Virginia’s brothers, Arthur (Jane) Sodermark of Gladstone, Marvin (Patricia) Sodermark of Cornell and sister, Karen Bratonia of Gladstone.

In addition to both their parents and a grandson, Gary Allen (Williams) Johnson, Virginia was preceded in death by an infant sister. 5 brothers, Arne, Herman, Carl, Helmer and Everet Johnson, preceded Jack in death.

The Jack and Virginia Johnson family would like to especially thank the following organizations which assisted them at the scene of their parent’s accident and at the hospitals. Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Gladstone Public Safety, Escanaba Public Safety, D.N.R., Valley Med Flight, Rampart, Gene’s Towing and the Emergency Room Staff at O.S.F. Hospital and U.P. Health Systems.
