Jack A. Donis, 92, of Elkhart, passed away at home Friday, May 1, following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Madison, Wis., to the late Peter and Agnes (Grey) Donis.
He later married Esta L. Rushing on Jan. 6, 1989, in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Jack was the former vice president of the First National Bank of Elkhart and was a self-employed banking consultation adviser. A well-known local businessman, he served on the Elkhart County Council for eight years and was a member of Elkhart Moose 599, the Elcona Country Club, the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, Elks 425 and the Lions Club. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing tennis. He also served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II.
He is survived by his children, Annette (Dennis) Doubertien of Granger, Helen Donis Keller of Boston, Nicholas (Pam) Donis of Edwardsburg, Mich., Bruce (Terri) Donis of Atlanta, Raymond Anderson of Clearwater, Fla., Francisco Sanjurjo of St. Louis, Aracelis Donis of Chicago, Estella, Kayla, Joy and Charity Donis, all of Elkhart, Joshua (Rachel) Donis of Stuart, Fla., and Joel Anderson of Elkhart; brothers Jim Donis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Peter Donis of Duluth, Iowa, and sister Diane Finn of Colorado Springs, Colo. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son, Andy Donis; and his brother, Tom Donis.
Throughout his life, Jack was a foster parent to more than 100 children.
