James Walter “Walt” Kingery, the son of Elmer and Birdie (Brown) Kingery, was born December 4, 1924 in Marion County. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in the class of 1942. Walt married Irene Hildebrand on July 16, 1943 in San Francisco, CA. He worked as a Tool and Die Maker for Maytag. Walt was the Supervisor over tool grinders for many years.

Walt was a tremendous woodworker. He made cedar chests, coffee tables, and many accessories out of old barn boards. Walt enjoyed hunting, especially for pheasant and quail. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Walt had served as a Palo Alto School Board Member.

Walt passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing, at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Larry “Wink” Kingery, Clarence E. Kingery and Harrold Kingery.

Walt is survived by his loving wife, Irene of Newton; a son, David (Pam) Kingery of Newton; 3 grandchildren: Jake Stoecker, Eric (Carissa) Stoecker, and Brian (Kelly) Stoecker; and 2 great-grandchildren, Zoe and Merrick.
