Google search “Iyanna name meaning.” Iyanna can be translated from Arabic to English meaning “Gracious God; Life; Woman.” The Iyanna A. Cushionberry was born on January 29th, 1998, in Newark, NJ to Chevon Cushionberry. From birth, she will always be outgoing and truly the life of the party. Just embodying her name uncoincidentally. Truly a blessing from the gracious God we serve, to have had the honor to play a role in her life.

Iyanna was a bundle of creativity, unapologetic joy for life, and love. Early on in school, she would turn writing into poetry and even actual music of her expression. As time moved forward, Iyanna would attend programs that specifically allowed her to grow and truly understand who she was. Relentless in achieving her goals, she stuck with the programs, always improving while managing to let her creativity flourish. She even made some beautiful pieces of jewelry that will forever hold a special place in the heart of the family.

As an adult, there was not much that she let try to limit her. Iyanna was a Jersey girl growing up with a love for the city that never sleeps. As a child, she just knew she wanted to live in New York. Harlem to be specific. However, Iyanna managed to live in three different boroughs in New York City: Queens, Bronx, and Brooklyn. She moved there at age 20 and made it work for four years. She would hold jobs at various places since she was so malleable and willing to learn anything. She would shine at Macy’s Warehouse, a kosher meat market, and even temp agencies for housekeeping just like her beautiful great grandmother Mary Cushionberry. As a grown woman, Iyanna has evolved tremendously to be mature, spiritual while maintaining a carefree joy. Iyanna made it a priority to get closer with God as she traveled this big world on her own as an adult which proved to be beneficial to her being. You could definitely count on Iyanna to cook you a fulfilling meal and entertain you in a way that left contagious smiles everywhere. Her memory serves as a lifeforce that you cannot mope or frown upon.

Her Brothers’ Interlude:

I will mark these words on my body as is: “A queen first, my big sister forever, and now my guardian angel.” I wish I can yell “Yeahhh” the same pitch, the same tone, but I know her energy can never leave that statement when I think about her. Resilient and risky, a pair that sums her up every day she breathed. Truly unapologetic in the life she was living, I caught a glimpse of that looking at almost 500 pictures from her Facebook profile. The ones who loved her the most knew that in her journey she may have had to traverse through many dark tunnels that honestly nobody can say life prepared them for. However, I can say I never saw her spirit break, through ups and downs, she just managed to smile through it all. As she transitioned, the thought of missing her saddens me, but I want to replicate the energy she embodied on Earth. Not just for the family, but for me more importantly. We love you Iyanna forever, knowing you will always be near slowly replenishes my heart now. I’m going hard in the paint for you, my love.
