April 18, 1932 – Jan. 25, 2010

Ivan “Pop” Hale Hatcher went to be with the Lord on Monday,
Jan. 25, 2010.

He was born on April 18, 1932, in Iaeger, W.Va., to the late James Allen and Laura Maud Pauley Hatcher. He was a graduate of Iaeger High School and the Naval Electrician School in Washington, D. C. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Allen Pauley Hatcher.

Ivan served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 through 1956. He married Glenda Louise Grubb on Feb. 12, 1955, in San Diego.

As a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Iaeger, W.Va., for the majority of his life, Ivan served as a trustee and general maintenance worker until his move to Statesville in 2004. The Lord led Ivan to move his membership to Mountain Road Baptist Church, where he enjoyed the love and kindness of many new friends.

Ivan retired from Peoples Security Insurance in 1997 after 36 years of selling life insurance to friends and family. This was the perfect job for a man with a love for people and for life. He served on the Board of Directors at Pioneer Community Bank in Iaeger, W.Va., until
his death.

Left to cherish his memory is his family, all of whom loved him dearly: his wife of 55 years, Glenda Grubb Hatcher, of the home; four sons, Sam (Corine) Hatcher of Racine, Ohio; Al (Jennifer) Hatcher of Statesville; Thom (Crystal) Hatcher of Beckley, W.Va.; and Joe Hatcher of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; four grandsons, Jason (Brandy) Hatcher of Princeton, W.Va.; Josh Hatcher of Charlotte; Marc Hatcher of Racine, Ohio; and Cody Hatcher of Statesville; one sister, Phyllis Wohlford Stephens, of Roanoke, Va.; and a host of extended family and friends in southern West Virginia and Statesville.
