Iva M. Cornwell

Newark – Iva M. Cornwell, 102 died peacefully Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.

Family and friends may call Sunday (Feb. 17) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L.

Mrs. Cornwell was born the daughter of Jacob and Marietta McFaul Schlecht on December 23, 1899 in the town of Arcadia. She graduated from Newark High School, class of 1918. She attended Geneseo College for one summer and then went to teach in a one room school house in East Palmyra. In 1940 she and her husband inherited a farm on Maple Ridge Road where they worked on the farm and raised their family.

Mrs. Cornwell was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church and the Newark Grange for over 50 years. Mrs. Cornwell was also active in the Newark Senior Citizens for many years. She enjoyed playing Bingo and listening to Books on tape.

Mrs. Cornwell is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Clayton and Mary Jane of TX; Robert and Ruth, Paul of Newark and George and Kate of FL.; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cornwell was predeceased by her husband John Cornwell in 1988, one brother and one sister.
