Mrs. Iva Lee “Moody” Coe was born June 15, 1924, to the late Fred and Maddie Moody in Tompkinsville, Kentucky.

 

She attended Tompkinsville Public Schools. At the age of 13 she moved to Indianapolis, In with her sister Nettie Kate Bailey.

 

In 1944, she married her sweetheart Samuel Coe Sr. To this union 7 children were born. Doris L. (William) Clay, Samuel (Linda) Coe, Dr. Fred Coe, Armitha Penman (Calvin), Nelda (Levi) Head, Nathaniel Coe, Eugene (Gloria) Coe.

 

Mother Iva professed a hope in Christ at an early age, under the leadership of Elder. Jethro H. Burrus.

 

She worked many years as a private housekeeper for Jim and Gina Bremner.

 

Mother Coe loved people, but she especially loved her family. Her “sweet pea” was her aunt Alma T. Shields, better known as “Ain’T”. They met when Mother Coe was 11 years old, and Ain’T was 12 in Tompkinsville, KY. Down through the years they shared many great memories. Her other friends also included Mother Enna Washington, Mother Mary Anders, Sister Tessie Gibbs and Sister Delores Green.

 

 

Mother Coe was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Coe Sr., parents, Fred and Maddie Moody; siblings, Willie T Moody, Georgia Moody, Nettie Kate Bailey, and five of her seven children Samuel Coe, Dr. Fredrick Coe, Armitha Penman, Nelda Head,  and Eugene Coe.

 

 

She leaves to cherish her daughter, Doris L. Clay, and son Nathaniel Coe. She also leaves a host of relatives including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, saints, and friends. Honorable mentions to her caregivers Donna Head, Anita Newton, and Diane Jefferson.
