He received his education at New Mexico School for the Visually Handicapped in Alamogordo, NM. He never let his visual impairment get in the way of pursuing a higher education. He attended Western New Mexico University and New Mexico State University majoring in Finance.
His career started as a tax examiner with the Internal Revenue Service in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was there that he met his first wife. His daughter Jodi Lee CA³rdova was born on October 26, 1976.
He returned to Albuquerque in 1980, and worked for the New Mexico Federation For The Blind as a fund raiser.
It was here in Albuquerque that he was to meet the love of his life, Ruth Yvonne CA³rdova and her daughter, Alicia Antonietta who was born on July 2, 1982.
Ruthie and Leroy shared their lives together for many years, and it was on August 24, 2002 that they committed their lives to one another in holy matrimony. They were married in the Old Town Plaza in Albuquerque in an outdoor ceremony.
