Isabelle B. Hober, 90, a World War II veteran, formerly of Worcester, died on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at her home in Erie, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Anthony R. Hober, Sr.
She leaves a son, Anthony R. (Marilyn) Hober, Jr. of Castle Rock, CO; a daughter, Diane I. (Jerry) Weskalnies of Erie, CO; a sister, Ruth Skrip of Auburn, MA; a brother, Edmund J. (Barbara) Vaitkunas of Auburn, MA; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Isabelle was born in Worcester, MA on July 7, 1921, to John A. and Petronella (Aranskas) Vaitkunas. She graduated from High School of Commerce in 1939 and The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester in 1942. From 1943 to 1946, she served as an Army nurse on the 215th Hospital Ship in Australia and the Pacific and was awarded three bronze stars. As an Army wife, she lived in New York, California, Austria, Worcester, and Brunswick, ME. She later lived in Quincy, Winchester, Stoneham, and Worcester. She was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish prior to moving to Colorado in 2008.
