Isabel Gabriela Deetjen y Place’ Parrott, 86, of Bloomington, IL, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at BroMenn Hospital in Bloomington following a heart attack and pneumonia.

She was born March 18, 1922 in Havana, Cuba, the daughter of Juan Place’ and Alicia Deetjen Place’. She married John William Parrott on October 20, 1945 in Havana, Cuba while he was stationed at Guantanamo Air Base. He preceded her in death in 1981. Also preceding Isabel in death were her parents and two siblings, Juan Place’, Jr. and Celia Gonzales. She proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1950.

Isabel is survived by six loving children: Alicia Claypool (David), West Des Moines, IA; Virginia Lawless Akins, LeRoy, IL; John W. Parrott, Jr. (Sandra), Bloomington, IL; James Parrott (Rebecca Plattus), Brooklyn, NY; Jorge Parrott (Anna Marie), Charlotte, NC; and Isabel Parrott Manker, Springfield, IL. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Adam Claypool (Megan), Des Moines, IA; Beth Claypool, West Des Moines, IA; Sarah Claypool Friedland (Adam), Chicago, IL; Rebecca Franz (Tim), LeRoy, IL; Randy Lawless, Imperial, MO; Chanel Parrott, Bloomington, IL; Candace Parrott, Bloomington, IL; Nathaniel Parrott, Brooklyn, NY; Jessie Parrott, Brooklyn, NY; Orion Parrott, Sacramento, CA; Matthew Parrott, San Francisco, CA; and Jonathan Parrott, Charlotte, NC. The great-grandchildren include Katherine Templeton, David Finn and William Henry Claypool of Des Moines, IA; Samuel Robb Friedland, Chicago, IL; and Zoe Claire Franz, LeRoy, IL. Isabel is also survived by a sister-in-law, Wanda Kirby, of Bloomington, a brother-in-law, John Tipton of Joliet, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker and devoted Mother who attended all of her children’s school programs and activities. Although Isabel did not learn to drive until in her 50’s, she more than made up for it by putting well over 10,000 miles annually on her car until she could no longer drive. She loved to go out for lunch with friends and family, sang in Sweet Adelines for years, was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed nothing more than time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
