BURDICK – Irving “John” Burdick, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Donna (Beatham) Burdick for 64 years. Born August 21, 1936, in Winsted, CT he was the only child of the late Irving John Sr. and Martha (Church) Burdick. John was a lifelong resident of New Hartford, CT. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician Mate. He married his high school sweetheart, and they were role models, true friends, and an example of a loving couple to many. John was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Hartford and served as an elder, trustee, and together with Donna were the financial secretaries for many years. He spent his career as a Service Technician for Southern New England Telephone Company and as a PBX Technician for AT&T. John and Donna operated and owned the Burdick family orchard and enjoyed running it for decades with help from their five children. John loved spending time camping on Cape Cod during summers with Donna and their kids. He enjoyed his model trains, John Deere tractors, lighthouses, and square dancing with the Foothill Steppers. He took great pride in his home and yard. He truly loved working on projects at home and helping others. John was happiest when surrounded by his family and nature, watching the wildlife in his yard, especially the hummingbirds and goldfinches. For 35 years, John and Donna were snowbirds in Palm Bay, FL. They enjoyed winters at their Woodside home and loved being part of the Joy Lutheran Church family. They made many life-long friends in Florida. To know John was to love him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his beloved children, John M. Burdick, New Hartford; Jeffrey (Carol) Burdick, Cary, NC; Martha (Carlos) Piedrasanta-Burdick, Rockville, MD; Alyson (Bruce) Baier, New Hartford; and Amy (Ron) Norris, Wendell, NC; cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Grayson, Daniel (Brandy), Michael, Carlos, Stefan, Abby, Kevin, Lance, and Langdon; four great grandchildren, Camden, Miller, Adley, and Brewer. John’s family would like to thank Dr. Christina Gomez, the dedicated and caring staff of the Torrington Smilow Cancer Care Center, and the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield County.
