Irvin “Bud” Albert Schlorch, 85, of Lafayette, was called home to be with His Lord and Savior Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Bud was born to Stanford and Elizabeth Case Schlorch on February 12, 1937, in South Bend, IN. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School and joined the US Navy in October 1954.
Bud was in the US Navy aboard destroyers and carriers as a Marine Mechanic until 1968. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars and the National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star. He joined the National Guard and was a member of different units until he retired in 1981.
Bud was employed at Michigan City prison after leaving the US Navy, then moved to Lafayette to work at National Homes. He eventually went to work at Purdue University as a police officer. He later worked for the State Highway department and then for the State Corrections department.
Bud never knew a stranger and would become friends with everyone he met. He always looked for the good in each person and always gave them the benefit of doubt. Bud enjoyed wood working and model building. He has made wood furnishings that are still in use today by those blessed to have received them.
He is survived by his sister Dorothy (JC) Powell of Visalia, California and has many nieces and nephews.
Bud married Nancy Pope Schlorch in 1956 and they divorced in 1988, she has since passed. They had three daughters: Danielle (James) Gulitz of Lafayette; Robin (Todd) Baxendale of Lovell, Wyoming; and Michelle (Walt) Holliman of Quitman, Arkansas. He has six granddaughters and nineteen great-grandchildren from this marriage.
Bud married Peggy Frier Schlorch in March 1989 and they were married until her death on July 31, 2012. Peggy has three children: Lena (Gary) Nelson of Brookston; Ed (Regina) Frier of Lafayette; and Jodie (Jeff) Schneidau of Lafayette. He has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren from this marriage.
Bud married Bonnie Ellsworth in 2013 and she survives. Bonnie has four children: Kim Ellsworth of Lafayette; Tina Jenkinson of Lafayette; Beth (Mike) Quinn of Ackworth, Georgia; and Robbie (Chris) Ellsworth of Mooresville, Indiana. He has fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren from this marriage.
He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Neena Gulitz Tudor and great-grandson Elijah Tudor.
