Iris Winchester; 100, of Boerne, Texas passed away on October 22, 2022.
Iris was born on August 8, 1922 near Westbrook, Texas in Mitchell County to Jim and Lessie Costin. She married Frank Winchester in August 1941 and they moved to California from Colorado City in December 1941 after Pearl Harbor to work at North American Aircraft. Frank was called into the Army and Iris stayed in California working as a riveter on B-29 steering gear. After Frank returned from Germany they moved to Odessa, Texas where he had a career for many years at Tuboscope Inspections. They retired to Rising Star, Texas in 1970 and she lived there until 2000 when she moved to Boerne to be near her son. Iris loved spending time with family, reading, and nature.
She is survived by her son, Dwane and wife Nancy of Boerne; her granddaughters Celeste McCleskey, Nanelle Albritton, Claire Winchester, and Sarah Winchester; as well as seven great grandchildren and fourteen great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Winchester; her daughter, Nancy Davis; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Martin; and her brothers, J.C. Costin and Warren Costin.
