Irene M. Grzyb, 88, a lifelong resident of New Britain, passed away at her home after a brief illness. She was born to the late Boleslaw & Marion (Topolewski) Kosinski on June 28, 1927. She married the late Walter L. Grzyb in 1950 and lived together in New Britain to raise their family. Irene was a bookkeeper until she retired from Bell Pump in the late 1980’s. She was an active philanthropist donating to many causes over the years. Besides her parents and husband, Irene was predeceased by her sister Laura Barnacle and her brothers Henry and Robert Kosinski. Irene is survived by her children Paula A. Shiok of Brunswick, ME, Barry Grzyb and his wife Cheryl of Bolton Landing, NY, & Rebecca Lamontagne and her husband Robert of Middletown; a brother Daniel Kosinski and his wife Antoinette of Myrtle Beach, SC; 5 grandchildren, Jessica L. Maher and her husband Jeff, Jocelyn M. Shiok, Jeremy E. Shiok, Ali Nicole and Dylan Grzyb, and 5 great grandchildren; Helen and William Maher, Marlo Shiok, and Luna and Francesca Shiok. Irene had a great sense of humor. She loved tennis, especially when Roger Federer was at the net. She enjoyed taking trips to the casino, going to Rocky Neck for soft shell crabs, eating lobster wherever available, word find puzzles, giraffes, and of course, chocolate with nuts.
