Irene Butscher was lifted into the arms of the Lord and carried to her heavenly home on December 9, 2016. She was reunited with her husband of 62 years, Henry, her parents Edward and Anna Huff and grandson Michael. She was born and raised in Chicago, IL into what would become the world’s greatest generation. A sports enthusiast, she lettered in sports, excelling in swimming. She especially enjoyed her summers in Wisconsin where she worked at the family resort. She was actively involved in the Lutheran church where she met her lifelong sweetheart. Irene and Henry were married in Chicago and later relocated to Albuquerque in 1950 where they raised their family. She retired in 1984 after 20 years of service working in various capacities with HUD. Irene was an exceptional mother. Always putting family first, teaching through example, and loving unconditionally, only begins to touch the surface of the love, devotion and respect her children and grandchildren have for her. A selfless woman, caring and nurturing mother, she taught her children to respect authority, care for others and to love and care for animals. Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and career woman. Her exemplary life will live on eternally in the legacy she left in the hearts of her family and friends.
Irene is survived by her children, Judy and Bill Bugert, Jim Butscher, Janice and Eddie Barreras, Joanne and Clay Newman; grandchildren, Joshua and Moira Carlson, Lindsey and Doug Bair, Josh and Brooke Newman; great grandchildren, Eric and Maya Carlson, Matthew, Kevin, Chris, Hailey Bair and many furry, four legged grandbabies. Our family wishes to thank mom’s home health caregivers Sylvia and Carole for their companionship and care along with the Hospice caregivers at Anna Kaseman for their kindness and care during her final days.
