Irene Bertha Nichols, 91 of Newburg, WV, passed away on Tuesday, December 02, 2014 at her residence with family by her side. She was born May 1, 1923 in Newburg, daughter of the late Henry Hazel and Bertha Anise Herndon Goff. Irene graduated from Newburg High School Class of 1942. She worked during WWII at Ballard Aircraft in Arthurdale, WV. She graduated from the beauty academy in Martinsburg and was self-employed as a Beautician in Newburg for over 40 years. Irene loved quilting and gardening. She was a member of the Shays Chapel Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by two children, Nils N Nichols and wife Elisabeth, Washington, DC; Theresa A Nichols, Herndon, VA; one grandson, Jeffrey M Bender; one granddaughter, Adele S Collier; two sisters, Bernice Goughenour, Newburg and Nona Bolyard, Independence; one brother, Carl Goff and wife Donna, Newburg, one sister-in-law, Shirley Goff, Newburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Stanley Nichols in 1996, two brothers; Charles Goff and Tennis Goff.
